Before the trail run.

Johannes had been planning with his friend Super Dave for a few years to do an adventure race together again. The last one fell through. But they were able to find a military sponsored race in West Virginia. A bit of trail running, hiking, white water rafting, mountain biking and canoeing in Minden, WV.

Super Dave made us worried for a while because 2 days out he was still in Quatar, but with a bit of luck made it home right on time.

There were 4 person teams. The leader had invited Dave, who also invited Johannes. The requirements also stated there had to be 2 female per team. Turns out the friend from Langley used to be in Johannes' ROTC class in Chicago. Small world.

Johannes was going to just drive up and back, but then I began to remember the torn up feet and frozen legs and exhaustion from his previous marathons and realized there was no way he could drive himself back after cover 50 miles in two days, doing sports he isn't accustomed to.

So we all hopped in the car and drove up.
