Our Turkish guide in the underground city informed us that this tank was an ancient baptismal font. He said you may wonder why it is so big and deep, but the early Christians had the practice of baptism completely under the water or by immersion. I gave him a high 5 and then demonstrated with 7 year old Arcadia how the ancient Christians would have done it.
