We kept Arcadia in the dark on this one but promised her that it would be worth it to get some rest on the train and be on her best behavior because we had a surprise for her.
She was very impressed! We told her a king was kind of crazy and built a fairy-tale castle (well technically it was a Wagner inspired castle, kind of like if someone built their home to reflect Metallica or Nascar or Disney) just because he could. 
Johannes and I had been to Neuschwanstein 8 years ago right after we had spent 12 hours in the freezing cold waiting for New Year's Eve 2000 at the Berlin Wall. Although that was a cool way to bring in Y2K, I got really sick and I hardly remembered a thing. Arcadia's favorite room was the king's private bedchambers where he had a giant 4 poster bed and swans everywhere and murals of the legend of Tristan and Isolde on the walls. She especially liked that the door knob was a swan and that there was a secret door that lead to his own living room. The next coolest room was the reconstructed cave where he listened to the orchestra below. (He hosted performances but never personally attended),
Here we are on the bridge that overlooks the castle and the valley and Schwansee.
