How we almost missed the boat

Once we had resigned ourselves to the fact that we were in fact going to see very little of Athens we decided to save our Euro dollars and take the metro out to Piraeus port. We were able to get back on the train with out initial 80 Euro cents tickets and go out to the ports. This was the first time in years we had been bested by a city and we were a bit peeved. It was mostly due to the fact we had so little time to see what we wanted to see.

Unfortunately since we had gotten an easy ride out of the port we were reckless and sort of forgot to look back and see where we needed to return. All of the other places we had docked only had one port and about 5 ships, so we could find our way back easily. But Athens is huge, duh, and there were 12 ports with dozens of ships and we were seriously running out of time before ours took off. At about 10 minutes before the time for our ship to take off we realized our folly and I began to seriously panic. Mostly because I knew if we got left behind we had no passports, but also because I can't exactly run to the gate right now like I usually can. So I stopped of inside a travel agents booth on the dock and asked if she might know where our ship was. Sure enough she knew where it was, but getting a taxi in Athens is not easy, as we had discovered earlier in the day. They could use about 30% more than they have, as every single one we saw for almost 5 minutes was full. we finally got a taxi and the driver had NO idea where to go and spoke no English and we speak no Greek. He kept stopping his taxi driver buddies to ask directions. Somehow, with a lot of praying, we made it to the port just in time and plopped right on to our very uncomfortable beds, frustrated and exhausted. Then we set sail for Mykonos.
