The Claus family LOVES nutcrackers. Hans and Christie have enough to fill the top of a grand piano. After we got married, Christie started to divide up her expanding collection, and dole out some that had been specifically given to each of her kids. So we have one that was given to Johannes from his Great-grandma Jones. He isn't the prettiest nutcracker in the army, but since Grandma Jones died before Arcadia was born and it is the only thing we have from her, he stays.
As an extension of the nutcracker craze, the Claus family goes to see the Nutcracker ballet every year possible. Two years ago Johannes took Arcadia with two of her friends in North Carolina, but there was no show in Turkey, so he was anxious not to miss it this year. He found tickets to a local production and took Arcadia. This year she was old enough to read the playbill and storyline, and was interested in learning the instruments in the symphony.
I've added to that nutcracker craziness. I gave Christie a snowman nutcracker one year for Christmas.
