Iskenderun

Until about 529 A.D. there was a flourishing metropolis, the 4th largest city in the world called Alexandria, named of course after Alexander the Great who arrived in 333 B.C. However after a series of devestating earthquakes between 525 and 529 the entire area was turned to a pile of rubble and there are no intact remains to be seen, they have all been covered up by later civilizations, and by a current modern port city. Well, modern for Turkey.
