According to the legend, the King of Snakes (remember, he was the King of Yilankale, the snake castle we went to when we first arrived, about 70 miles from Tarsus) was in love with the daughter of the King of Tarsus. Well, being a low-life snake, he used to secretly watch the beautiful princess at the Hamam, or bath. One day, while watching the princess, Sahmeran slipped and fell down into the hamam, and the princess's guards cut off his head. it is believed that the stains on the hamam wall are still traces of his blood. Hmm.
Anyhow, we were standing looking at this statue and I was telling Arcadia the story, which was kind of making her nervous. I lifted up my camera to take a picture and all of a sudden the water from the fountain blasted on and surprised all of us. It was pretty funny.
