Antioch has the 2nd most important mosaic collection in the world. The following are some of my favorite mosaics and stories.
Daphne and Apollo:
The legend of Daphne and Apollo is actually a local story for Antioch, as it is to have occurred on the local riverbed.
Daphne was walking along the river one day when she noticed that Apollo had spotted her and was essentially "checking her out". She was not interested in him or his advances so she began to run into the forest crying to Mother Earth to protect her of the fate of being caught by Apollo and entangled in the world of the Gods. Mother earth heard her plea. She began to have roots sprout from her feet, bark covered her middle, and branches grew from her arms and she was transformed into the Laurel tree.
